It PROBABLY DOESN'T HELP that Karkat has been equating the whole "trainer" gig with being a lusus; in this scenario, Merope is the zookeeper and Karkat is the unruly wild animal she's mysteriously responsible for even as he protects, mentors, and guides her. Troll custodianship sure is weird! She's also sort of adopted Dave; he gave her a domino mask that would make her "a hundred percent braver," and she's taken this to heart despite all evidence to the contrary + screams when anyone tries to take it away from her. For the most part, though, she's very quiet, supportive, and willing to turn her DEVASTATING VOCAL PROWESS to yelling at anyone she's upset with (usually Karkat but occasionally Zaniah and Pounce)." Now that she's been left with Rakka, Merope is a bit downtrodden to not have her trainer around, to say the least. Still, she's taken a shine to Rakka, and oftentimes sticks close to the girl."
